If you’ve ever wished you could escape to a quaint little beach town where your kids can spend their days riding bikes, splashing in the pool, playing baseball with all the neighbor kids, and watching a movie under the the stars, let me introduce you to Carlton Landing, Oklahoma.

Nestled along the shores of Lake Eufaula, Carlton Landing feels like stepping into a scene from the Sandlot.

This walkable community was intentionally designed around front porches, community gathering spaces, and spending time outdoors, which creates the kind of place where neighbors wave, kids roam freely, and life slows down just enough to actually enjoy it.

Carlton Landing Oklahoma with kids

We recently spent a long weekend here, and I was blown away by this charming Oklahoma town. It ended up being the perfect getaway that felt like a nostalgic 90’s summer.

While we filled our days with swimming, playground visits, outdoor movies, and plenty of lake views, what stood out most was how easy it felt to be here. No hustle bustle, no jam packed days – just quality time together and lots of popsicles, fireflies, and summer sunsets.

Best Things to Do in Carlton Landing

Spend the Day at the Pools

One of the town’s highlights are the 3 beautiful community pools – all free and open to anyone staying in the town.

During our weekend in Carlton Landing, my kids would have gladly spent every waking hour swimming. The pools are well-maintained, family-friendly, and serve as one of the primary gathering places throughout the community.

And the best part? They are totally walkable from anywhere in the town.

Visit the Swim Beach

Being located on Lake Eufaula means easy access to the water.

The community swim beach is a great place for families to enjoy the lake without needing a boat. Kids can splash, play, and enjoy the sandy shoreline while you take in the beautiful lake views.

Conquer the Aqua Park

For older kids and adventurous families, the floating aqua park is one of the most exciting attractions in town.

Featuring inflatable obstacles, climbing structures, slides, and jumping platforms, it’s essentially a giant floating playground on the water. This was easily one of the highlights of our trip for all the kids.

Kids must be aged 7 and over 45 inches tall to participate. Children aged 7-9 must have an adult participating with them during their 1 hour time slot (they are very strict on this, so come prepared to jump, climb and swim!).

Explore by Golf Cart

If there’s one thing you’ll notice immediately in Carlton Landing, it’s the golf carts.

While we chose to walk throughout the community, renting a golf cart is definitely a popular way to explore the town. It allows families to easily travel between pools, parks, restaurants, and lake access points while adding an extra layer of fun for the kids.

While it’s definitely not necessary to rent one, it is a fun extra if you are looking to splurge a little on your stay.

One of my favorite features of the town was the kid friendly touches, like a “Baseball box” located in a large grassy area near our rental. It had bats, balls & gloves that kids could borrow to play a game of baseball.

There is also a bocce ball park with bocce ball, cornhole, ping pong and other yard games available for anyone to use, free of charge. Plus a disc golf course throughout the town with free discs you can borrow (these are located next to the pop up shops in a white bin that resembles a trash can).

Throughout the year, the town hosts a variety of family-friendly events, activities, and seasonal celebrations that help bring visitors and residents together.
